"Washday Blues" FFFC #32`
"Washday Blues" is finished. You will note a bit of happiness for this hard working gal in the water bucket.
Continuing with my 'woman' theme, and thinking about my Mom and grandmother and the hard work those pioneer women did, brought this one to life. My grandmother had a scrub board and washing machine like this one.
I've used the analogous hues of red to
yellow orange, and the compliment of blue.
The background is woven fabric. Lot's of hand stitching and a bit of machine stitching to finish it off.
This piece has been sold.

This is a wonderful piece! I love the composition, colors and the sentiment behind it. Beautiful work!
A lovely piece Rhoda. I think you have found your niche.
This is very, very well done Rhoda.
I love everything about it.
Glad, too, to see the flowers in the bucket..especially on Washday [used to be Monday for me... in the olden days...]

This a beautiful work of art...very endearing indeed!

Rhoda, you have out-done yourself this time! I feel as if I know this woman. She is my grandmothers, great aunts and all those hard-working women who kept us clean, fed and in line. I had forgotten the handle on the wash tub - you've captured an era in one quilt. This series just keeps on getting better.
Thanks Roberta. That handle turned the wringer. How on earth did they do it! And they had such large families as well.
I feel it's a tribute to our grandmothers, mothers.
What a wonderful quilt! Definitly a work of art! I love it! It holds memories! It feels as if a part of me is in there somewhere. I used to 'help' my grandmother do the laundry when I was very young, in an old tub to soak everything, then an old washer with a wringer, that I was not allowed to touch. All that took place outside on the back porch. The house was not big enough to have a laundry room.
Arggg! Blogger is not letting me leave a comment! This is my third try. Hope it works! I love your piece! A truly wonderful art quilt! I love it! It evokes memories! I can see myself, at my grandmother's side, helping her with the laundry. She had an old tub and a wringer washer that I was not allowed to touch. All that took place outside on the back porch because the house was to small to have a laundry room.
Rhoda, my first time visiting your blog and I'm sure glad I did..you are very inspiring to me as I'm not a new quilter but definitely not to your calibre of quilting - I'm adding your site to my RSS feeds so I can watch and learn thanks for the excellent blog
