Easy Street and Crabapple Hill

I have finished step #5 of Easy Street, this quilt is going to be bright. I hope we get to use our green fabric soon...will wait patiently for next Fri.  I love looking at all the other bloggers sites who are doing this mystery, some luscious color schemes :)  Bonnie does a link up on Monday, I will add the link then.
I've had a pleasant morning making some of the blocks for my Crabapple Hill quilt. The snow is falling and I am listening to CBC radio, my brother played some of his old vinyl Christmas Music as I  sewed away.  I love to have some handwork to do, therefore am embroidering the Crabapple Hill blocks in the evening...here is a sample of what is happening with this quilt...I'm using all bali's for the blocks and have many more to make. This is just a sampling of what it will look like.
I hope that you to are having a wonderful relaxing day, and not stressing out with the upcoming Holiday :)  Happy  Sewing :)

Easy Street Step #4

Busy today finishing up Step #4 of Easy street. I like how these flying geese units turned out. I'm using orange where Bonnie used purple...this will be a bright quilt.  Looking forward to step #5..on Friday.
I have developed a cold, darn. Christmas baking is going slowly. made lefse yesterday so the family was smiling...maybe butter tarts tomorrow.  The tree is up...so I'm not totally behind.
I made this little dresden table topper after watching Missouri Quilting youtube...a bit festive.
This big guy visited our neighborhood last week, we don't often spot snowy owls in the city. Apparently they are coming south due to lack of food resources in the Arctic...global warming...sure something to think about. Isn't he beautiful? my son was making mouse sounds to get him to turn his head :)
I hope you are all having a great weekend, and not stressing about the holiday :)

Easy Street Step #3

Busy day today, finished up step #3. I am using orange instead of purple.  It was nice to add some turquoise to the mix.  I used Bonnie's method for making these and they went quite fast.
Here are all three steps together.
I was busy this week making Big Star Blocks that measure 25" , so doing these little 3 1/2" units was a big switch.  Here are three of the big blocks. They are from a Youtube that Missouri quilt has out. And if you would like to see that others are doing with the Easy Street Mystery Quilt check it out here: http://quiltville.blogspot.ca/2012/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-3.html
I am in a swap and have five more to make and get in the mail to my partners.   Our weather remains the same very cold, on the plus side today it was a beautiful bright sunny day with no snow.  I love these bright sparkling winter days.  Hope you are having a good weekend.

Big Star Block Quilt

Missouri Quilting has a YouTube that features a 25" star block. I just had to try it, got carried away and made nine of them...a very large quilt, definitely a queen size. I need to find some fabric for a border. I know one block is wrong :)  When you snowball the blocks you get the secondary design.
Very cold up here today, -29C without the windchill...but a sunny day with NO snow.  Waiting patiently for Step #3 of Easy Street, come on Fri !

Easy Street Step #2 and Snow

Very happy that I finished Step #2 today of Bonnie Hunter's new mystery quilt. 128 little flying geese units done. I don't have the rulers that Bonnie used in her directions, therefore I did the quick method for flying geese from the Quilter's Cache site. I had to fool around a bit with the size but in the end it went very fast.
Here are the little beauties, my purple is orange :)
Here is step #1 and Step #2.  I am amassing quite a few little units .

To see how others are progressing with the mystery visit Bonnie's LinkUp you will find it here:
  http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2012/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-2.html,

It is a perfect weekend to be tucked in with the sewing machine. We have been getting heavy snow for four or five days now. I went downtown earlier and the traffic was moving very slow, lots of snow piling up everywhere. I heard on the radio that it is -30C  with the windchill today...brrr.
Here is the view from my front door...the poor trees are quite weighted down.  Hope you are having a great weekend!
And here is my grand daughter shovelling off the deck, she is running out of room to pile the snow.

Photo of The Day : Self Portrait

I am participating in a Photo of the Day over on FB with some quilty friends. Thought I would share todays subject with you.  I did this in one of Pamela Allan's classes. Note those perky boobs and pearls of wisdom in the hair...it was so much fun to do.
It is still snowing, and my it is piling up! With the windchill today it is -29C and I can tell you that is cold.  Hopefully we will get a break soon. I'm off to sell raffle tickets for Rotary Manor Care home at 3:30...in the Co-Op...wondering if anyone will be out and about, best take some reading or hand work with me.  Hoping you are having a great day.

A Finish and on the Design Wall

I finished my grand daughters quilt...all washed and on her bed. It has mauve minky on the back so is very cozy.
And here is what is on the design wall, these are such fun little blocks to make and this is my first solid colored quilt. Lot's of applique stitching ahead of me.
I am not sure what color I'll use for sashing...was thinking of white or shades of red??? What do you think?
Hope you are all having a great week...we are getting snow and more snow!  Driving is not recommended and I was up town today and really couldn't tell where I was at half the time!  Tomorrow is step #2 for Easy Street, better get the cutting table cleared off.

Easy Street Step 1

It is that time again...Bonnie Hunter's new mystery quilt Easy Street. I am off and running with step one completed. 200 of these delightful little four patches are done.

Here is what it looked like yesterday.

Here they are this morning...poor color quality.
To keep those little four patches nice and flat I press open all the seams (my quilter also likes it better when the seams are flat)
Here are the colors I have pulled for this mystery, they might change as I go along.  The greens are much brighter than in the picture.
This will be my second mystery with Bonnie, I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and am looking forward to this one.
A cool day up north, the sky is full of snow...

Design Wall

Here is what is on my design wall. Grandaughter informed me she needed a big quilt...she has lots of cuddle quilts. So she got into the stash and here we go .It is already to sew together . We have a beautiful piece of mauve minky for the backing. I hope to get it quilted this weekend.

It is a bit warmer up here -15C
compared to -27C yesterday and we have a nice covering of snow.  Here is a bit of a seasonal picture for you...I thought it was funny to have the lawn chair in the scene :)

Christmas Market

I have been busy making bags for the Christmas Market at the gallery. These are so much fun to make.

Two different patterns from Charlie's Aunt, love these patterns :)

Fiber Art

After being inactive with my Fiber Art for so long I finally felt in the mood to finish a few pieces that have been UFO's for far too long. With the upcoming Artists Christmas show at the local gallery I have three pieces ready to be hung. All three are from classes taken with Pamela Allen, I hope to take a class with her in Feb for more inspiration to get back on track.
The first one is...Study in Red and Green: Contemplation
This one is called Social-time:
And the last one is The Village:

I have spent many lovely quiet evenings doing the hand stitching on these pieces. Enjoy!

Modern Mystery Quilt

Finished! We received the last clue yesterday. I had a very busy morning, quilted and bound the Mystery Quilt. It was a lot of fun and a first for me. Very liberating not worrying about losing points or corners meeting etc. I quilted it with a geometric design. The back is a yummy fleece in a green/yellow. I will be pursing more modern type quilts in the future. A big thank you to Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr for providing this fascinating quilt.  Isn't the binding neat...I will be doing that more often too.

Fall is definitely upon us up north, we had a bit of snow but it is gone now. Just windy and coo.

Modern Mystery Quilt Step #4

Absolutely gorgeous weather, very cool in the morning and lots of sunshine for the rest of the day. I love Fall. Here is step #4 of the mystery quilt I am doing.  So much fun and just two more steps to go, I can hardly wait to put it all together. I made a total of seven of the colored strips only had room to show four.

Modern Mystery Quilt Step #3

I finished step #3 of the Modern Mystery quilt. We have two more steps can't wait to see how this will go together.  I feel so liberated with this quilt, no exact measurements seams pressed open...wonderful fun!
It is a gorgeous day in the North, a bit frosty this morning but the sun has sure made up for it now :)
Hope you are having a lovely Fall day!

Bags, Bags, Bag, and more bags.
I had so much fun busting some stash and whipped up several bags.
This one is made from a flannel panel that I've had for a long time.
Both of these are made from flannel
This little charmer has two large outside pockets.

I used some texture magic on these two.
What do I do with all these bags?  I sell them through the local Art Gallery :)
