Modern Mystery Quilt Step #3

I finished step #3 of the Modern Mystery quilt. We have two more steps can't wait to see how this will go together.  I feel so liberated with this quilt, no exact measurements seams pressed open...wonderful fun!
It is a gorgeous day in the North, a bit frosty this morning but the sun has sure made up for it now :)
Hope you are having a lovely Fall day!

Bags, Bags, Bag, and more bags.
I had so much fun busting some stash and whipped up several bags.
This one is made from a flannel panel that I've had for a long time.
Both of these are made from flannel
This little charmer has two large outside pockets.

I used some texture magic on these two.
What do I do with all these bags?  I sell them through the local Art Gallery :)

I am so intrigued with the Modern Quilt movement. However just didn't  know where to start, I know I need some solids in my stash and some greys. The AQS are sponsoring a Modern Mystery quilt so I signed up for it.  Not sure what the whole quilt will look like but it is a start to making Modern Quilts. I like the freedom of not precise measurements etc.   Here are the results from the first two steps.

Step 1 rectangles of various sizes
Step 2 half circles on a background (or field as they call it ) of light grey.
Stay tuned for Step 3 as a I continue my journey into Modern Quilting.
It is such a beautiful Fall up north, one of the warmest Septembers that I remember. We spent a few days camping up the Hiway and the colors are just glorious. These pics were taken at Pink Mountain BC. Such a beautiful time of year to be out in the wilderness.
Just about at the top of Pink Mountain

The ranch where we were camped, took this picture from a long way up!
Lots of wild low bush blueberries and cranberries.

The cows home from the summer range.
This little one is only two weeks old and was born out on the range .

What a way to bust stash! I've always loved coiling on my gourds so decided to try some coiled fabric vessels, not bad...a few more are in the works.

I have also been making some tote bags;

Gourds

My first love has always been gourds, I created art with gourds for ten years or more. Until I had major surgery on both hands and couldn't grasp too well. Well...the other day I painted a gourd and oh my it felt good. Here is the result. I hope to be doing more in the near future.  The coiling is done with long leaf pine needles and raffia. Coiling has always been my specialty.

Basket of Sunflowers

I am in need of some great spring colors. Last week I had some fun dyeing up some fat quarters. Had some nice results with low immersion and Procion dyes:

Then I needed to play with colors so designed a new wallhanging. It is pinned and ready for stitches.
We have had a very mild winter, and in the last week finally have a bit of snow on the ground. Even so I am ready for spring and playing in the dirt.
Have a nice day wherever you are :)

Sunday "summer days"

We had some very cold temps last week, down to -45C with the windchill. Then it warmed up and gave us a nice cover of snow. Today a gorgeous sunny day with -7C.  So I had some time last week to finish up a design I was working on. I hope to teach this at a shop in the spring, therefore I used Bali fabric from the shop...of course you might know I want to do it in my hand dyes.  I just think the hand dyes give more depth to the subject.
Here it is:

I made it to hang as one long piece, however I think it would look nice hanging as each separate block?

It has been sometime since I did any designing, so really had to put the old thinking cap on.
Hope you are having a lovely Sunday.

New Design and Orca Bay

I worked on a new design last week, it still needs quilted and binding. Need a name for it, any suggestions?
Here it is:
Here is one row for the Orca Bay quilt, I have four rows done and the fifth ready to sew together.
Our lovely spring like weather has gone, -29 for most of the day and predicted to stay that way for a week. A good time to stay in and finish the orca bay quilt.
Hope that you are having a great week.

Orca Bay Final Steps

I've started putting the quilt together, although I haven't finished all the units yet. My, the last two steps just days apart have a lot of work!  I like the way it looks. My red string blocks are just a bare 1/4" too large, so am adjusting !  My design wall isn't wide enough to show the whole strip:)  Hope to have the top finished sometime next week. You can check out this Mystery at: http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/orca-bay-mystery.html  I am loving how this is working out, what a beautiful design!
